Obvious Dark Knight cash in is both obvious and terrible.

It’s amazing how DC has managed to screw up by killing Damian because I can’t imagine who could be the new Robin and not be terrible.

Where is all the fanart of Tim celebrating Damian’s death?

Comeon Tumblr, you’re dissapointing me. It’d be funny!

Boycott DC

So Steph in the upcoming Smallville comic is being replaced with Barbara Gordon. Rumour confirmed.

I don’t know about you but for me that was the last straw. This kind of dumb marketing lead managing of the DCU is what killed Steph off in the first place. It’s what made Cass, least evil of the Batfam, into a cliche villain. Bad enough the reboot has taken Steph, Cass and so many other beloved characters from continuity. But I don’t think they ever intend to return them to prominence or even use them well.

More evidence:

- They say they have big plans for Cass for years but nothing happens

- They do everything to deny Steph being a Robin before finally just stripping it from her

-Want to know what they are thinking? Someone asked Scott Snyder himself what they planned to do with Cass and Steph. He said he wanted to use them but wasn’t allowed to.THAT IS WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT CASS FOR YEARS AND SHE NEVER SHOWED UP!

They may well never be returning. This tease of Steph being in the comics then replacing her with the ever tedious Babsgirl is the last straw. They will never return in a significant or satifying way (I mean think of poor Artemis in Lobdell’s Titans…)

Until Cass or Steph is returned to the mainstream continuity, treasted equally to the male Bats and are put in a good series DC won’t see another penny from me.

Fuck you DC. Fuck you.

(I’m pissed because I care. If I didn’t care I wouldn;t buy comics which are damn expensive considering a full graphic novel takes an hour to read at most).

Since Damian was tacky enough to bring the crowbar I think now would be a good time for Jason to drop the “I fucked your mum” bomb.

Hey Jason, at least you made it to the issue.
Steph’s conspicious absense kind ruins these incomplete gatherings of the Robins for me.

Young Justice: The Timeskip was a Mistake

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to keep watching YJ and it could still turn it around…

But they spent 26 episodes making me love the main characters plus Zatanna, Red Tornado and not!Roy.. and now more than half of them are gone and the rest are changed. So much that was unresolved at the end of series one will have to have been resolved by now unless everyone spent the last five years asleep.

I don’t object to starting in media res but this is past that to a point where matters are already resolved. Breaking up Supermartian then seeing why, intresting.

But they have too much to handle. SHow what happened to the old team AND develope the new one? And have an ALIEN INVASION arc? Two of these would be doable. All three is not. There wasn’t enough time last series and they had fewer charcaters, more episodes and a plot centrered about the characters anyway.

And fucking Mal Duncan and Bumblebee? Who they hell wanted to see them? I want to see more POC in the main cast but why did you have to pick such minor characters who are only going to get sidelined and are as dull as hell anyway?

You know what would have been intresting? Introducing a non-white Robin or a non-white Wondergirl or a non-white Batgirl… oh wait, we already have that last one. SHE’S CALLED CASS!

It’d have been a brave, intresting and novel move and frankly the introduction of a little colour into the Bat and Wonder families is long overdue. That’s the kind of reason to have a timeskip. Instead we get the zillionth itteration of Tim. Yay, like we haven’t seen him a million times before. When is someone else gonna get a turn?

And what about the POC we had already. Kaldur? Artemis? Rocket didn’t say anything you’ll notice. Not that I mind, her VA is awful, but it shows how brutally she’s been sidelined.

And why Babs? WHY NOT CASS! OR STEPH! Or a new Batgirl. Again, give someone else a turn. And isn’t she a little old to be BatGIRL? Seems more like BatYOUNGWOMAN to me.

AND LOBO THREW CASS INTO BABS! MUST THIS HAPPEN EVERY FUCKING EPISODE?

And Lagoon Boy? Who the fuck wants to see Lagoon boy.

And fuck Beat Boy, annoying little motherfucker.

And while I love Jaime I’m not impressed with his VA so far.

And Bab’s VA could be better

Not sure about Cassie’s

Urgh

Young Justice Episode Ranking

Top tier/Near perfect episodes:

Infiltrator: BEST CHARACTER ARRIVES! BEST VILLAIN ARRIVES! SNARK AND COOL FIGHTS! Only ruined by the fact Dr Roquette can’t connect to the internet from Mount Justice, The Batcave or even The Watchtower. Also Roy should have destroyed her work as a matter of course when leaving the Shadow’s base.

Targets: Roy offers his anus to Lex. Great episode but like Downtime, Kaldur who I initially liked is the dullest person in the episode. And Sportsmaster is still a stupid name. However, Cheshire is still great and has a panty shot! We’re introduced to Lex also who has a perfect VA.

Humanity: Great villain and final battle. The sacrifice of Inferno and Torpedo is genuinely moving and Red Tornado channelling away the volcano’s ash is truly awesome. Zatanna’s introduction is great too, albeit limited.

Image: M’gann you poor baby, let me hold you! Everything with Megan is lovely and her explanations of how the TV show was her hope cuts me to the heart and retroactively makes all her “Hello Megan”s heartwarming. The stuff with Logan is a little annoying but he is a little kid and the actual “Hello Megan!” episode goes on too long but other than that it’s great.

Disordered: Nearly perfect. Therapy to deal with trauma is something more shows should have so I’m so glad they had it and how good the sessions were at characterisations. Meanwhile Superboy develops beyond being dumb and angry, is actually funny and helps balance out the seriousness of the static therapy scenes with cool action ones. Only downside is how cheesy the Forever People are. They look like characters from He-Man only made to sell toys.

Great but with some flaws tier:

Denial: Fun and snarky. Fate and Klarion are great antagonists. Only failure is not real giving Wally development as a character and turning Spitefire into some dull inevitable canon thing even though there is no real reason it should occur.

Independence Day/Fireworks (Only ever seen them as one episode): Strong start but a bit of a sausage-fest and Roy’s voice is stupidly deep. Wally starts his theme of running into walls and being useless.

Alpha Male: Captain Marvel is awesome. The team not giving Kaldur chance to explain himself pisses the shit out of me but it’s a good episode for him and the team works well together. Le Brain is also le cool.

Good but with caveats:

Schooled: Stupid plot but fun and their biker gear looks cool

Coldhearted: FINALLY A GOOD WALLY EPISODE WHERE HE LEARNS HOW TO ACTUALLY USE HIS POWERS AND BE A REAL HERO!. I love his determination when he’s on the ground and getting his ass beat but still refuses to give up the heart. The kid keeps going until he literally faints. Very cool and very heroic. Vertigo being dumb right at the end is the only weakness in the episode. Also like Wally finally found out about SuperMartian but wasn’t angsty. Suits his character.

Mostly good but with weak sub-plots or wasted potential:

Bereft: Overshadowed by the fucking moronic bashing of Miss M. But I like the art in the mental battle and the team is mostly cool and funny.

Drop-Zone: Fun and glad Robin isn’t the default leader but the whole thing about it being his destiny annoys me. We are however introduced to Miss M’s excellent stealth costume which thankfully will be her new outfit in Invasion.

Homefront: Well the action is great and it’s good for Artemis’s character… But she looks pretty pathetic compared to Robin. He leads the way the whole time and saves Artemis two or three times and she actually just curls into a ball. Improved by the fact that since then Artemis has become a major ass kicker.

Only average:

Revelation: Nice to see all the cameos by the Leaguers but the fight scenes are mediocre as are the Joker’s voice and dialogue. Fatelad is cool but the whole thing felt like it could have been done better as a confrontation. Does contain the infamous “I feel naked, and not in a fun way” however, which is awesome.

Secrets: Weaker on re-watching. The Artemis and Zatanna stuff is pure gold and it’s GREAT to see some stuff between two females without involving them talking about boys. Both are also real ass kickers and Artemis shows she’s dangerous even without her bow and has overcome her panic from Homefront. However, Harm looks stupid and needs to stop fucking talking. And the side plot is boring and distracts from my SNAIBSEL fun.

Downtime: Eh, it’s okay but Garth and Tula are dull as shit. The scenes without the Royal family are weak, though the scenes of the rest of the team (Except Wally) are great, especially Artemis and Robin.

Misplaced: Ironically the best thing about this episode is what ruins it. Bill/Cap is great but it distracts what the episode should have been about: Zatanna and the confrontation with Klarion. What it should have been was Zatanna making the ultimate sacrifice by putting on the helmet as it’s the only option and Zatara choosing to take the consequences for his daughter in a heroic sacrifice. Instead the poor writing of the episode and fight scene makes it looks like Zatanna was merely impatient, didn’t need to put on the helm and Zatara has to clean up her stupid mistake. Also the animation is a little choppy.

Bad:

Welcome to Happy Harbour: I’ll admit, M’gann is a little grating in this episode but so is the rest of the teams unnecessary jerkishness. Also what’s up with not valuing the lives of sentient robots? A weak episode by YJ’s standards.

Terrors: Urgh, can I think of anything good to say about this episode? Well I think Killer Frost oggles M’gann while she’s changing clothes? No, it sucks and they don’t even have the decency to kill Icicle Junior. Annoy little shit.

N/A:

Failsafe: Impossible to judge as an episode. It’s just so unlike the others. I don’t enjoy it but I don’t really dislike it either. It’s interesting but it’s not really my thing. That said I fear the whole “Miss Martian Dark Phoenix” thing could become a real plot tumour in the future and I kind of hope they forget about it.

Young Justice: The Mole Revealed (Probably)

So the toy box for the second series of Young Justice, Invasion, has been revealed. It contain the new character designs for four existing charcaters and reveal two new ones.

If you don’t wanna know who the mole is or about Invsion, don’t click, otherwise you have been warned:

Reply to Kitty talking about Damian, School and a normal life

(I can’t reblog answers)

Putting Damian in school would be a bad move because he’s just too smart for the stuff they learn at his age and he’d get bored and act up and quickly stop going, or be kicked out for causing trouble. He could go to a school for genius kids or to university/college but there are problems with that too. Putting him with out of the ordinary people undercuts the normality idea while there isn’t a uni subject he cares enough to study.

Getting Damian to do something is impossible unless you are his daddy, and even then it may result in him leaving your to teamup with evil Frenchmen (Is there any other kind of Frenchman?). He has to agree to do it, but he doesn’t want to seem to do anything except punch badguys… though this is subservient to his main goal of “Prove myself in my father’s eyes”.

The Titans weren’t a problem because they were Tim’s friends, that never mattered for them. The age thing wouldn’t be a problem once Damian showed he had the intellect and maturity of an adult. The problem was he never showed that. He insulted them from the start, they insulted him back and were never given a reason to reassess him.

(Beast Boy swooped in a few issues before and tried to make himself the Titans leader and he wasn’t treated any different.)

Throwing Damian in with the TTs and expecting him to make friends was silly but the fact is Damian immediately insults and alienates everyone he meets. The only people who don’t have some major combination of not caring (Cass and Alfred) and/or empathy and compassion (Dick and Steph).

Damian is very much like Cass in that he was tailor-raised to fill a very specific role (Albeit with a wider scope than Cassandra) but little else and thus totally fails at being anything but fighting and the supporting Bat-Skills. In Batgirl Babs says Cass is being harmed by her relentless Bat schedule and she’s right, but when they go on holiday or Batman grounds her Cass resents it and just wants to go back to punching dudes in the dick.

I guess what Damian first needs is a metaphorical and literal hug from Bruce. The reason he pushes himself so hard is to prove himself to his dad and know that he’s his heir. Worse he has a lot of ground to cover in catching up to the other Bat-heirs. Bruce has adopted three other kids and the distance between him and them must seem distressingly huge to Damian. Dick was Robin before little D was even born. Although less on his radar, Cass is also a Wayne, quasi-heir to the Talia side of his legacy and a better fighter than he’ll ever be.

And Tim, oh Tim. Do we even need to go into it? In Damian’s more paranoid internal moments Tim probably looks like him, only minus the flaws Batman hates and equal or better skills, plus years more of experience and an older and better relationship with Bruce. When Damian arrived Tim was living in the house, as Bruce’s son, with his name, as his Robin, which to Damian is another word for HEIR. No wonder he tried to kill him, he’s must seem like his “evil” goatee wearing clone from the mirror dimension and only one of them can live.

So yes, he needs to be praised and accepted. A ceremony where Bruce formally makes him Robin, where he shows he is the one he wants would also help (Damian made himself Robin after Bruce died and since returning he’s just been pretty much “Meh, okay I guess”). Once he no longer feels he’s in a losing race with Tim or holding onto Bruce’s grudging acceptance with his fingertips he might cool down a little. After that he needs to get an interest in something other than fighting crime. Maybe do something good, like help organize the Wayne-Foundation’s work in Gotham. Hands on and ground level experience there with normal people would also help. And Bat-Daddy needs to take some maternity leave from work and spend time with his child not related to their night jobs. He can be the stay at home mum while Dick goes out to work.

I am increasingly convinced the best way to redesign characters visual looks is by throwing it open to the fandom
